Wednesday 16th October
I
had not planned anything for Athens, having been there a couple of times
earlier. I had thought of chasing internet in Piraeus and wandering around
there, perhaps going on the Happy Train. However, the weather was lousy! It was
misty and raining, and certainly not the 26 degrees we had been promised. Those
who had booked excursions were wet and cold and miserable by the time they
returned.
I
had another late start to the day, and as I went downstairs I ran into a man
who was also chasing the internet and knew where to go. We caught the shuttle
bus to the port terminal building and sat in the port, along with many crew
members, trying to connect. Although we were told it was fast, it was woefully
slow and kept cutting out. Zac joined us and had the same problem. I gave up on
the hope of uploading my blog and decided it won’t be done until I return home.
I want to enjoy the last two ports without chasing internet.
I
spent the rest of the day reading and relaxing before dinner. Not many people
came to the dancing in the evening, perhaps weary from their time in the
dreariness of Athens. Once again I had a Viennese Waltz with Martin, to the
tune of ‘My Favourite Things’. The music went on and on and the other couple
dropped out halfway through. I have been wondering if the band purposely makes
these selections long in order to see if we can continue to the end. Martin and
I are too competitive to let a band beat us! I may gasp my lungs out when I
finish, but I will persevere to the end.
