Friday 4th October
I
had a very disturbed night, with lots of miscellaneous noises waking me
frequently. (It sounded as though there was a tiny animal scampering backwards
and forwards across my wardrobe. At other times I’d hear a rustle ofpolythene.
All soft but frequent.) When I heard the steward’s cart outside (the tumble of
ice blocks as he fills up each ice bucket) I ignored it and kept trying to
doze. I was surprised when he actually knocked on my door, as I had put out a ‘Do
not disturb’ notice. I kept my eyes shut and waited for him to go away. I
decided I’d better look at my ipod for the time and discovered it was 11:33!
Definitely time to get up.
It
was a mad scramble to get some fruit and coffee and reach the dancing class by
12.15, but I was determined not to miss the Salsa lesson, as it’s a dance I
don’t know. It was worth going!
It
constantly amazes me how quickly time passes on a cruise. You sleep in; you
chat over lunch; after a short rest it’s time to meet friends for afternoon
tea; by the time I write up my diary and blog, I’m always late getting ready
for dinner. I’m the one who slides into the empty seat five or ten minutes
after all the rest have arrived. (Back in June I was on a cruise where everyone
on the table arrived minutes before the cut-off time for last orders – much
more to my timing!)
