Monday 30th September
After
a 2-hour trip by train and taxi to the Ocean Terminal, it was wonderful to get
through the required cruise documentation in five minutes, walking past the
room full of seated people waiting their turn. However, I was then faced with a
30-minute queue to get through security. I’ve never had more than a 5-minute
queue before. I can’t stand still for that long (low blood pressure) so
resorted to sitting on the carpet cross-legged beneath a queue divider until my
part of the queue came around. I then moved over three lanes and waited for
them to catch up. That’s one way of surviving!
The
photographers were waiting just before we got to the screening machines. They
were very polite and not at all pushy. In fact, the only photograph was the one
I took of them. I did not notice anyone at that time having an embarkation
photo.
My
luggage arrived ten minutes after I did. As I sorted everything out in the
cabin, I plugged in my strip of four power sockets. A light flashed on the
strip! I hurriedly unplugged it and stashed it away in my suitcase. Later I
calmly reported to my room steward that my power points didn’t seem to be
working. Definitely nothing to do with me!
Looking
from my balcony I was intrigued to see a barge collecting rubbish from the
ship. It is interesting that it is not collected in full view on the port side
of the ship. Perhaps it would detract from the experience of the boarding
passengers?
By
4:30 we were at sea.
